How do you apply for the return of your abducted child from abroad?
Zimbabwe is a signatory to the Hague Convention on Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction in terms of the Child Abduction Act [Chapter 5:05]. Furthermore, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Justice, Legal Affairs & Parliamentary Affairs has been designated as the Central Authority. Each country that is a signatory to the Convention has a department known as the Central Authority.
Thus, requests for the return of abducted children should be made by application to the Central Authority. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Legal Affairs & Parliamentary Affairs as the designated Zimbabwean Central Authority in terms of the Convention will then submit the application to the Central Authority of the country where the child is believed to be.
It is not uncommon for the Zimbabwean Central Authority in respect to incoming requests for assistance in securing the return of an abducted child to instruct a firm of legal practitioners, such as Kanokanga & Partners to assist you.
