Is it possible to interdict a church in Zimbabwe from using a particular name?

Yes. It is possible in Zimbabwe for a church to legally restrain or interdict another church from using a specific or particular name. Generally, when a church splits or factions emerge in Zimbabwe, the mother church can approach the High Court for an interdict to stop the splinter church from using its name, logo or any variation that might cause confusion to the public. The High Court in Zambezi Conference of Seven Day Adventists Church v Seventh Day Adventist Association of Southern Africa; General Conference of Seventh Day Adventists & Another v Zambezi Conference of Seventh Day Adventists 2000 (1) ZLR 179 (H) held that it is permissible in Zimbabwe for a church to claim ownership of its name and such protection from a break away or splinter church.
