What are the functions of a Notary Public in Zimbabwe?

Generally speaking, the functions of a Notary Public in Zimbabwe as in other countries are numerous. They include the following:

• Administrating oaths and taking of affidavits for use abroad;

• Authentication of trues copies of original documents for use abroad;

• Preparation and translation documents for use abroad;

• Preparation and registration of notarial bonds;

• Drafting and preparation of Power of Attorney (General or Special);

• Preparation and registration of ante-nuptial contracts;

• Preparation and registration of notarial deeds of trusts including family trusts and benevolent trusts;

• Preparation and registration of notarial deeds of change of name;

• Preparation and registration of notarial servitudes;

• Protesting bills of exchange;

• Verify the authentication of documents for use abroad;

• Translation of documents emanating from overseas.
