What are the various types of legal consultation available in Zimbabwe?

Law is a discipline which has many branches and sub-branches. Parties whether based in the diaspora or in the country generally need legal consultations in which they seek advice and guidance on a variety of issues. 

Prince Kanokanga, The Law of Costs in Zimbabwe: Text, Cases and Materials (Durban 2021) at 252 defined a legal consultation as follows:

“The initial meeting between a client and a legal practitioner is known as a consultation. The consultation consists in a legal practitioner being advised of a particular matter requiring legal advice or assistance. 

It is usually at this consultation, or follow up consultation, that all facts which would assist the legal practitioner in conducting the case of behalf of client are established. This process involves collating the facts and extracting the relevant from the irrelevant and presenting the whole of the evidence in pleadings for the court or a tribunal in a concise, logical and intelligible form.”

A legal consultation is not a mere formality. The right to consultation with a legal practitioner in Zimbabwe is a fundamental right. Nowadays legal consultations are available in Zimbabwe using advanced methods of communication and telecommunications. see Hayes v Minister of Housing, Planning and Administration, Western Cape 1999 (4) SA 1229 (C) 1242-1243.
